BEOWULF
Three bloodcurdling encounters in the life of a Viking hero
Tonight at the Café we will take part in an ancient feast of
storytelling. Beowulf - the oldest story in the English language. Still
with the power to raise the hairs on the back of the neck especially
when told by a master of British storytelling.
It tells of a hero whose life is mapped by three blood-curdling encounters.
First with the monstrous Grendel, then with his even more terrifying
mother (the original creatures from the black lagoon); and finally,
as an old man, with a fire-guarding Fire-Drake.
Alongside these adrenalin-charged encounters, the story explores the
journey we all make from the seeming invincibility of youth to the heroic
vulnerability of old age.
With this riveting performance - red wine I think.
