PETER AND GORG CHAND Peter and Gorg Chand

Once again we bring the stories of the world to the Cafe with Peter Chand and his nephew Gorg. They are storytellers with family origins that hail from the Punjab region in India.

Peter has been telling stories for over five years and first collaborated with Gorg in 2004 at the Festival At The Edge in Shropshire. Their stories tell of jealous gods, irate mystics, tragic lovers, and normal peasant folk, caught up in the colourful and vibrant worlds that exist within the great Indian epics, and folk tales alike.

The Chand boys also include Punjabi drumming in their telling, and reveal the well-kept secrets behind the origins of traditional Bhangra dancing! They liken their style of telling to one of ma ji's curries: start with a fine blend of ingredients, add a handful of favourite spices that compliment each other, and you end up with a taste that lingers gently well after the meal is eaten.
