Very true, but there are several different types of singing. Operatic, 'crooning', heavy metal, blues, choral, chant, even (at a pinch), rap. My point being, that style, and content are (probably) what defines storytelling, as much as/more than anything else. 'Folk' stories don't have to be old stories, for example the so-called 'Urban Myths' are today's folk stories, and many may still be told for years to come. They tackle our hopes and fears, and the realities of day-to-day life; maybe that's the 'traditional' aspect?
