Peak District Storywalking Festival 2007
Caves and CastlesAn afternoon walk around Castleton, including Peveril Castle & Cavedale, with stories about the area, led by Pete Castle
THE WALK: Starts up Cave Dale which is quite steep and rocky and can be wet underfoot (not suitable for buggies, wheel chairs, toddlers etc). There are cliffs and caves and great views of Peveril Castle. At the top it becomes more level and we make our way around the hills on farm tracks overlooking Castleton, with views of Mam Tor and High Peak, to the B6061 road at the top of Winnats Pass. Then we'll walk down the Pass, which is one of the most spectacular roads we know (easy walking on the grassy verge), back to Castleton where there are many cafes and pubs if you are in need of refreshment!
THE STORIES: We'll hear several Derbyshire stories, some of which were collected in Castleton itself.
Meet in Castleton, on the corner of the main street and Back St outside the
Nags Head PH and opposite the Blue John shop.
Parking in any of the main car
parks or on the road if you're lucky!
Bring a picnic or coffee as we shall stop a break en route as well as for the stories.
